Synopsis:
  1. The ECG in medical practice is a clinically-orientated book, showing how the electrocardiogram can help in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with symptoms suggesting cardiovascular disease.
Description:
  1. This book has been used by clinicians to make major clinical decisions with regard to electric pacing, the use of thrombolytic drugs in acute myocardial infarction and the timing of surgery. In conjunction with a chest X-ray and the echo-cardiogram it is a fundamental part of the initial investigation of a patient with suspected heart disease. These electrical squiggles have always been difficult for students to understand. In part the problem has been that the formatting of the ECG has only become standard in the last two decades. Some important books have not provided the full twelve-lead ECG. On occasion the interpretation of the ECG has been related to complex explanations of the shapes of the electrical signals. For the practising physician much of the interpretation is a matter of pattern recognition.
Key Features:
  1. An easy, simple and practical book on ECG
  2. Good learning tool for beginners studying MBBS
  3. Full of information regarding cardiac and extracardiac diseases which show ECG changes
  4. ECG changes of each condition is described first followed by a brief description of the disease and related questions and answers
  5. Includes 150 ECG tracings for self assessment in a separate chapter
  6. Helpful for undergraduate and postgraduate students and teachers, doctors, busy practitioners etc. to refresh their memory
Summary:
New edition helping trainees recognize, interpret and diagnose cardiac abnormalities. Covers normal and abnormal ECG patterns. Includes 150 ECG tracings for trainees to practice.
Abstract:
The aim of this book is to guide the students and doctors about the basic concepts in ECG, its interpretation and recognition of cardiac abnormalities. It is also my intention to include common abnormalities in ECG and common cardiac problems that will help the students in any specialty of medicine, especially those who will appear in any examination. There is no doubt that basic concept of ECG is unchangeable. Only during discussion of ECG changes in different cardiac diseases, new information's investigations and management have been added.
Preface:
By the good grace of Almighty Allah and blessings of my well-wishers, I have been able to bring out the third edition of this book. Immense popularity and wide acceptability of this book among the students and doctors have encouraged me to prepare this edition. While I have written this book, my intention was to improve the understanding and interpretation of common ECG in an easy and simple way. Emphasis has been given on the importance of clinical correlation. To what extent this goal has been achieved, only the valued readers and time will tell. However, I can assure that a sincere attempt has been made by me to fulfill this purpose. Many new ECG tracings have been included in this present edition. In spite of my best efforts, I believe there is still scope of further improvement of this book and make it even better. Any constructive suggestions and criticisms will be highly welcomed and appreciated.
