<p>R Dayananda Babu MS MNAMS is Professor and Head. Department of Surgery, Sree Gokulam Medical College and Research Foundation, Venjaramoodu, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. He is currently a Member of the Senate Cochin University of Science and Technology and a Member PG Board of studies Kerala University of Health Sciences He has been a teacher of surgery for undergraduate and postgraduate students for the last 45 years. He was a former Professor and Head, the Department of Surgery, Government Medical College Kottayam, Trissur Academy of Medical Sciences (ACME), Pariyaram, and Pushpagin Medical College Tiruvalla Teaching is his passion and he is a popular teacher for all Continuing Medical Examinations (CMEs) in India. He has been a faculty for all National Surgical Conferences and CMEs He has been the former National President, Indian Association of Endocrine Surgeons, Chairman and Secretary, Association of Surgeons of India, Kerala Chapter, Examiner for National Board of Examinations and Inspector for NBE, PG examiner for all South Indian Universites Governing Council Member Association of Surgeons of india, former Chairman of Board of Studies MG University, Member PG Board of Studies, Amritha Vishwa Vidyapeetham University and Member, Board of Studies Kannur University He has received several national oration awards like Dr Jaipal Singh oration award Dr Jothiramalingam oration award (AES) Indian Hemia Society oration award, DR PK Sen Memorial oration award, Visiting professorship award of ASI and prestigious state oration awards like Dr C Raghavachari Memorial oration award of ASI (2001), Dr JS Sathyadas oration award of KGMCTA (2003), Dr PA Alexander oration award of IMA (2008), Dr Mohandas Memorial oration award and Dr ML Dathan Memorial Endowment Lecture.   1. It's give me immense pleasure to write a reference to this wonderful compendium of surgical wisdom by professor R Dayananda Babu. The clinical scenarios with the problem solving approach, bring surgical principles to bedside. This was a long-felt need and clinical surgery pearls has bridged the gap very effectively.Each section starts with a clinical scenario. cCommencing from the basic fundamental issues it elevats the reader progres-sively to more advanced cognitive levels. This approach from the khoen to the unknown and from the simple to complex, is in conformity with sound learing principles . This is why, the vast student population has accepted this book so wholeheartedly. The question answer format lends further clarity to learing process. Needless to say, each section is complete in itself and is of great help to our student community. I am happy to note that the third edition of this book is being released with update information on, "What is new' in each section . This will futther enhance the utility of this work, especially for our postgraduate students. I have no hesitation in recommending this book for our undergraduate and postgraduate students in General Surgery.

The book is highlighted with flowcharts and boxes. There is a separate section for definitions of various clinical terminologies. The presentation and style are unique. In this third edition all the chapters have been throughly revised and updated. Newdrawings, flowcharts and about 70 clinical photographs are added. The new AJCC, 8th edition is used for staging and management . The third edition of the book is coming in different shape and format, however still retaining the student-oriented approach.
